Do I need to do the Emergency First Aid at Work qualification?

From 1st April 2021, it became a legal requirement to have an Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) qualification before taking your SIA top up training.

  • You can add EFAW qualification to your Security Kings training package. The first aid training will be delivered on the first day of your course.
  • You don’t need to add this qualification to your package if you already have a valid First Aid qualification (or equivalent). This needs to be from a course you attended in person. (Online course certificates do not comply)
  • If you already have a First Aid certificate, it must have at least 1 year remaining from your course start date.

Who is the Door Supervisor top up qualification for?

The new SIA top up security training is now required as part of every door supervisor’s career.

This SIA Door Supervisor top up course is required for learners who currently hold a Security Industry Authority (SIA) licence to work as a door supervisor, and need to be brought up to date with the new requirements as of October 2021. The training is mandatory in order to carry one working within the security industry.

If you do not currently hold an SIA licence but would like to become a Door Supervisor, you can take our full Door Supervisor course in Burton.

Entry requirements

  • Learners must be aged 18+ to register for this qualification.
  • You will need to show that you hold a valid First Aid or Emergency First Aid certificate. The certificate needs to meet the requirements of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981. If you do not hold a valid certificate, then you must choose the course that includes the EFAW training.

How far in advance of my renewal date should I take top up training?

4 months

You can renew your SIA security licence up to 4 months before your current licence expires. It is best to start the renewal process as soon as possible, to allow enough time for the necessary upskill training and processing of the application.

Don’t worry, you don’t lose time by renewing early. The SIA will add any remaining time left from your current licence onto your new one.
